Getting Into School Shape?

Well....it has been quite a while. It is a new goal or an old goal with a new face, but I want to keep this blog active, or at least more active than once every five months! So, I want to add my first post in a long while. Here we go....

We are back into the thick of it...school, XC, Journey Group, Church obligations, etc, etc, etc. Summer was busy this year for Melissa and me, but nothing is quite like the Fall. Sometimes, it feels like there isn't time to come up for a breath. They are all good things, great things, but sometimes you just want some silence and a little break once or twice during the week, but I guess that's what summers and other breaks are for.

So, the title of this post is: Getting Into School Shape. I am taking that from a fellow teacher. He has taught since he was 22 and I believe he is around 50. He asked me how my first week back went and I said it went well, but I was so glad it was Friday. He said his went the same, but that he was tired as well. I agreed. He said he just wasn't into "school shape" yet. And I quickly agreed and have also stolen or borrowed the phrase. I have had a multitude of jobs and know or at least have a small understanding about the tiredness one can acquire from the different types of jobs. I have been too tired to eat after working for 12-14 hours in sun digging footers in Florida, I have been so tired from concentrating for long amounts of time as a camp director, student, etc. But I have not experienced the same type of tiredness and weariness that I have experienced as a teacher. It is like nothing else. It is the whole idea of being in "school shape". So, it is the beginning of our second full week...I am still learning to get back into school shape. Teaching days are long days. Good days. Rewarding days. Frustrating Days. Fruitful days. Just give me a couple more days and then maybe I will back into it again and will have learned once again the pace and breathing it takes one to last from August to May. It is not in any way, shape, or form a sprint and it is so much longer than a marathon. And my summer workouts didn't quite do the job, but most things that let you sleep till 10:30 don't work! :)

  1. Be sure to stretch! I don't want you to pull a hammy! JK, it is hard to get back into the routine but I'm sure you'll be back in the swing of things in no time! You are a great teacher!
    Love you. Mean it.
